A visit to El Gabinete del Barco immerses you in the beauty and heritage of Baja California. Enjoy a fascinating examination of five centuries of exploring. You’ll discover its arid landscapes that have fostered vibrant civilizations while also witnessing an exotic array of plant and animal diversity.
This Interactive Exhibition Features Five Thematic Areas, a Reading Room and a Timeline.
In the lower California peninsula the desert and the ocean have for centuries coexisted alongside the astonishment of those who, recently arrived, begin to see that beyond the apparent aridity of the landscape, there is an amazing natural, cultural and historical richness to explore.
This cabinet of curiosities is created to be an evocation of the incredible historical and natural landscapes of the peninsula, in the hope that our visitors will find within its walls the inspiration to go out and discover their own eyes the varying contours of Baja California, thus placing a new link in the tradition of exploration and wonder that goes back to the first pre-Columbian settlers.
Solaz is the host of a unique experience in Los Cabos and along Baja California Sur because we hold a permanent exhibition on site called “Gabinete Del Barco” which will focus on the importance of the Baja, as a crucial element in the natural history of Mexico, through the peninsula’s fossils and native artifacts, to a whale skeleton, suspended as a central piece of the exhibition. Gabinete Del Barco is an imaginary recreation of the work space of the peninsular explorer Miguel del Barco. It is a cultural experience that is proposed to our guests as an evocation of the history and destiny of the Baja California Peninsula.
As a guest, you have the opportunity to get a closest encounter with Baja California Sur history through this permanent exhibition: “A tour of the history of the explorations and marvels of the peninsula of Baja California”.
